Just kidding, but I did cut a little braid off of Leilani’s head before she shaved just above her ear. Today is Neptune Day, a US Navy tradition that celebrates the crossing of the equator. Every ship has their own rituals, but on SAS you shave your head! I’m shocked how many girls did it. I think around 20 girls went completely bald. A lot of the guys did too, but that’s way less exciting. I imagined my small head looking something like a cantaloupe I think. Plus I feel like the baldness would bring out the worst of my baby face. Some people just have it, and some jut don't. Leilani looks pretty badass though. And even with a middle part you can’t even see it. She’s working for the government this summer at a national park in Hawaii and was telling me how she's nervous for their reaction to her nose piercing and tattoos let alone a bald head. But it looks pretty sick. I’m adding this in pretending I’m worthy of all the attention for it but without actually shaving my head.

So we’re en route from India to Mauritius. Our latitude is 6 degrees, 12 minutes S and our longitude is 68 degrees, 52 minutes E. We are in the middle of the ocean, 11,677ft from its very bottom. It’s day 60 and the entire ship looks different. Every baldie now looks like the same person from behind, a ton of girls pierced their noses in India, and people once dressed in graphic tees and board shorts are now wearing every ethnic piece of clothing you can think of- kimonos at breakfast, longyis, sherwanis, even elephant pants for the tourist-ies, you name it. Such trivial things mark such big changes in people, changes I can’t even describe. We still have some time but I’m getting sad for this voyage to end!ps. Happy Neptune Day!
